Mystery (Five Find-Outer) Series – Bets and Fatty - wedding bells?

July 17, 2011 – Jenna says: Does anyone think Fatty and Bets would have gotten married in the years after the series? Bets would have made a lovely bride!
Bets says... Bets says: Julie Heginbotham clearly thinks so! Check out her wonderful fanfiction in the Fanfic section.
August 4, 2011 – Coo says: Ya, I m sure that fatty wil marry bets. We can see how they care and love each other in all the 15 parts. Do anyone agree with me?? Give reason.
Bets says... Bets says: It is rather strange to see someone say 'give reason' without giving reasons themselves! We'd love to hear your opinion, Coo - but please do make sure your spelling and grammar are correct, as we normally delete messages that require a lot of editing, especially when the mistakes are things like 'wil', 'ya' and lack of proper capitalization.
August 5, 2011 – Coo says: I am so sorry Bets for the wrong spellings. I really love you and Fatty. I also love the whole find outers but you and Fatty are special. The reason behind saying that Fatty will marry Bets is that he care for her so. Much. He also loves her a lot. I have all the 15 parts and I am saying this after analyzing them. Am I right??? Please reply me as soon as possible. Please ask Fatty to reply me too. Give me detailed replies and can you both be my friends?? I love you both.
Fatty says... Fatty says: I am friends with everyone! You are obviously a great fan of the Five Find-Outers & Dog, Coo. Yes, Fatty and Bets are a special couple of characters in the stories. Don't confuse fiction with reality though!
August 29, 2011 – lenton says: I think Fatty and Bets will be a really outstanding couple. Please tell me if you know about any more fan fictions about them and their marriage. Please reply. I don't have time so I will come tomorrow. I love you Bets and Fatty.
December 30, 2012 – Marria says: I think it could be sisterly love.
January 12, 2013 – Sweet Sascha says: I think Fatty and Bets, they're beautiful together!
November 4, 2013 – Tinky says: Well, Coo, I know exactly where you are coming from, but I don't think you need to worry, we are all entitled to our own opinions about Fatty and Bets, I'm sure you can keep yours! (I happen to mostly agree, but that's just incidental to what I'm trying to say).
June 1, 2014 – Matilda says: Does anyone know of a book where they show Fatty and Bets get married? I have read the entire Mystery (FFO) series and the series by Julie Heginbotham but there isn't a book. They only mention that they are married. Fatty and Bets are my favourite characters. Fatty because of his great sense of humour, disguises and ventriloquism. I like Bets because she is sweet and reminds me of my self when I was younger. I think Fatty and Bets make a super duper couple. Fatty and Bets always got along together. And as Enid Blyton said in Mystery of the the strange Bundle, Fatty was unashamedly boasting and Bets was unashamedly worshiping the boaster. (Sorry Fatty and Bets. I hope one of you'll will reply to me. ).
Fatty says... Fatty says: There is no account of Bets and my wedding, so you will have to imagine what it was like! Oh, and yes, Bets does worship me! ;-) By the way, why have you changed your name to Matilda?
June 2, 2014 – Sarah Drego says: I like the name Matilda. Fatty, even you change your name. (For Disguises) the FFO always said you were smart. I wanted to know if you would reconize me. It's a pity I forgot about the email-id! : -).
Fatty says... Fatty says: Matilda is a lovely name, as is Sarah!
June 16, 2014 – Paul says: If there was a TV series of the Find-Outers, would they show "puppy love" between Bets and Fatty? A frighteningly large number of people think Bets and Fatty are related so maybe not.
Fatty says... Fatty says: People can think what they like. As for "puppy love", Buster's far too old for that.
July 4, 2014 – Farwa says: Fatty and Bets would NEVER married, for Heaven's sake! They were just like a brother and sister, that's why Fatty cared for Bets and she always supported him. But honestly, Enid Blyton never intended any romance between them, I'm sure!
October 19, 2014 – Evie says: Fatty is too old for Bets. I think Fatty married Daisy, she is about his age. Why do people only talk about Fatty and Bets, and never Larry, Daisy or Pip?
Fatty says... Fatty says: Because Larry, Daisy and Pip are boring. In any case, Bets was only about 5 years younger, so that is perfectly fine.
October 21, 2014 – Evie says: Larry, Daisy and Pip are not boring! They are cool. And I think that when people say Fatty cares for Bets and loves her, it's more in a little sister and big brother kind of way than a romantic way. Fatty and Daisy are much better.
November 3, 2014 – Tinky says: The mystery books need every character - but they would fall flatter without Fatty and Bets than if you removed the other three.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Fatty is essential.
November 4, 2014 – Evie says: I understand how Fatty is important, as he does most of the detective work and is clever, but how come Bets is so important?
Fatty says... Fatty says: You will realise that when you read the books. It is better to find out yourself, than to be simply told!
January 6, 2015 – Paul says: Would Bets and Fatty have a church wedding, or simple registry office? What type of wedding dress - veil over the face, or veil over the back of the neck?
Fatty says... Fatty says: That's a mystery that only invited guests would know!
January 6, 2015 – Evie M says: Fatty is way too old for Bets.
Daisy says... Daisy says: Age is only a number!
January 6, 2015 – Evie M says: In Sally Neary's fanfic story Snubby from the Barney series married Lucy-Ann, who is from a completely different series- so perhaps Fatty actually married someone from another series? Just a thought. I'm not sure who it would be, though.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Of course, they could all be fictional!
January 6, 2015 – Evie M says: What do you mean, Fatty? All the EB characters are fictional.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Swatisaid!
January 6, 2015 – Tinky says: There is only about 5 years Evie, I reckon it could be worse :)
January 6, 2015 – Evie M says: Yeah :) My friend likes someone thirty years older than her, so yes, it could be MUCH worse!
Daisy says... Daisy says: Thirty years is a very big difference!
January 7, 2015 – Paul says: Stephen Fry's about to marry a much younger person, isn't he?
January 7, 2015 – Evie M says: Yes, he is. I suppose five years between Fatty and Bets isn't that big, after all. It really matters if they like each other in a romantic way. In the books, Bets is probably too young to 'like' anyone. But when they are older they could marry I suppose.
Daisy says... Daisy says: In Julie's fanfics on this site they are married to each other, Evie.
February 17, 2015 – Evie M says: Hello, I just want to make a comment which I think should go on here because of one of my other comments on this thread. I asked why nobody talks about the other three, and Fatty said they are boring. Also, other people have said Fatty and Bets are essential, and they would fall flatter without Fatty and Bets than if you removed the other three. II asked why Bets is so important and Fatty told me to find out when I read the books. I have read five of the books now, and I think Fatty is extremely important, but I still don't see that Bets is more essential than any of the others. Also, I found Larry, Daisy and Pip to all be interesting and fun characters, in fact Pip is my favourite Find-Outer. (By the way, I am not insulting Bets at all!)
February 17, 2015 – Tinky says: But don't you just reckon it's quite smart of Bets to guess Fatty is the balloon woman because of his eyes?
Daisy says... Daisy says: Bets guesses the balloon woman was Fatty, because he had clean finger nails, surely!
February 18, 2015 – Tinky says: Oh yes of course, sorry blank moment. She stared puzzled at his nails then looked into his face and saw Fatty's eyes.
February 18, 2015 – Evie M says: Yes that was clever, and she does make other good observations. But the others are just as important and just as good detectives, I think. Often, I think Daisy could have a good chance to show what a good detective she is but the best jobs usually go to Fatty or Larry. Also in Hidden House, when Bets says perhaps they thought Ern was Fatty because of Fatty's previous disguise. Fatty realises this is probably it and tells Bets- in front of the others- that she is 'the best Find Outer of the lot', which I think is unfair to the others. What do you think? (By the way Tinky I still think these books are fantastic, perhaps better than the Adventure series).
February 18, 2015 – Tinky says: Yes Evie I think they are fantastic too. The adventure series are great and exciting, but the Mystery series is both those with humour - the Five Find-Outer escapades are awfully funny. However I seem to be rather straying from the subject of Fatty and Wedding Bells! But I have a problem accessing the Society website on my computer. Also do you think he maybe says things like that to Bets to encourage her as she is the youngest?
Daisy says... Daisy says: I think so.
February 18, 2015 – Evie M says: Yes, I think you're probably right. He could have worded it a bit differently though, like "you're a really good Find-Outer, Bets! " And if you're interested, the order of my favourite characters is Pip, Larry, Daisy and Fatty tied, then Bets :) :)
April 26, 2015 – Elena says: That's great I finally found a fan fic where Fatty and Bets got married, I have been dreaming about this since I've read the first book. Many years ago. Unfortunately, I haven't find it in my native language (in translation). But I am happy that I found it here :) Sorry for grammar mistakes.
May 27, 2015 – Didn't leave a name says: Cool Elena could you tell me what the book is called?
Buster says... Buster says: It isn't a book, it is the Fan-Fiction section of this site.

Fatty says: And don't forget to use a name should you post again!
June 8, 2015 – Rebecca says: Sorry I didn't leave a name! Kitty its not in a book though!
Buster says... Buster says: You can read all about Fatty and Co in Retirement on this website under Fan Fic!
July 14, 2015 – Rebecca says: Just a quick question. Does Bets ever say any thing I mean she might like a say in this because it would be her future!
Fatty says... Fatty says: Trying to pin Bets down isn't always easy! She's never short of an opinion though!

Bets says: I can arrive when summoned! I was busy solving a mystery! :-) I admire Fatty very much, so it seems very plausible to me!
December 8, 2015 – Sunset Shimmer (Misty) says: What about Fatty and Eunice?
Daisy says... Daisy says: I doubt that very much!
December 16, 2015 – Sunset Shimmer (Misty) says: But they practically went on a date, and Eunice obviously loves Fatty. Maybe in the future she would be less annoying and Fatty would want to marry her.
December 17, 2015 – Haibara Ai says: It wasn't a date even, because Eunice forced Fatty to come and he didn't even enjoy it. Plus she only interfered in the mystery because she likes snooping. That's what I think anyway. P. S does anyone know any other fanfic sites suitable for kids??
December 18, 2015 – Yushida Ayumi says: I dont know any other EB fanfic sites either even though I looked.
Fatty says... Fatty says: As well as the fanfic on our site, the Enid Blyton Society also has a section devoted to follow-on novels. However, you need to be a subscriber to The Enid Blyton Society Journal to access this part of the website.
January 11, 2016 – Yushida Ayumi says: I've been on that sight, Fatty, but you have to pay to subscribe. But do you know any fanfic sites with EB stories that are suitable for kids like twelve to fourteen because on some other sites my mom said they're not suitable for my age and I really want to find more EB fanfic.
Buster says... Buster says: I only know of this site and the Enid Blyton Society.

Fatty says: The follow on stories on the Enid Blyton Society website are part of the membership package. The subscription gives you three first-class magazines a year as well as access to a subscribers-only part of the website. Of course you have to pay, although the subscription barely covers the cost of producing and distributing the Journals.
June 13, 2016 – Paul Austin says: When Bets and Fatty marry, I figure that Bets would insist that he be Fatty Hilton rather than her being Bets Trotterville?
Daisy says... Daisy says: I don't think that's the case, Bets would be proud to be called Trotteville!

Fatty says: And I think Bets would know how to spell Trotteville!
June 18, 2016 – Paul Austin says: Thank you, Fatty. It's been a long time since I read the Find-Outers books. Although I should have checked in any case. Made myself look as though a village was missing it's idiot.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Oh, without the odd village idiot, we would all look stupid! ;-)
June 24, 2017 – Avan N. Cooverji says: Fatty and Bets would make a lovely couple. Bets would find in him a husband she absolutely adores and for Fatty there could not be anyone who he would care for more than Bets. That is what marriage is all about and very few are lucky to have that, so should it happen in future, no one could be happier for them than me. ( or should I say I?).
Buster says... Buster says: Have you read Fatty and Co. in Retirement in our fan-fic section, Avan? They are both married in the stories of which there are 16.
December 17, 2019 – Maggie M says: About the Fatty and Eunice going on a date thing in Missing Man, wasn't it Larry who went with Eunice to give her dinner because Fatty wanted him to? I don't remember Fatty doing that, or maybe I'm just having a blank moment, since I haven't read the books in a while! (Also, I think Fatty and Bets would be a great married couple together).
Buster says... Buster says: If you think Fatty & Bets would be a great married couple, you may like to read about the Find Outers in Retirement on this website, in the fan-fic section. They may be retired but they're still solving mysteries. And Fatty and Bets are a married couple.
July 22, 2020 – S-Dog says: Fatty asked Larry and the others to entertain Eunice for a bit once while he escaped from her. Fatty did take Eunice out to tea at one point; she told him that he couldn't eat buttered toast and cakes because he was slimming, much to Fatty's dismay; then he saw Pip and Bets passing and invited them in to help eat it (so Eunice wouldn't eat it all). Eunice overheard them talking about the mystery, and then stomed out of the shop when they wouldn't tell her. So I wouldn't exacly say it was likely that Fatty and Eunice got married! Also, after Eunice stormed out, Bets took an eclair and a cream bun and put them on Fatty's plate, saying: - "I know what you want, Fatty! ", to which Fatty replied how she always read his thoughts. So if anything, that incident supports the idea of Fatty and Bets rather than Fatty and Eunice! (I don't think Fatty could ever love Eunice more than Bets).
July 23, 2020 – S-Dog says: Apologies, I forgot to put my name before posting.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Now changed! Thanks for letting us know. I also changed another of your posts, too.
August 1, 2020 – Nigel says: Those of you who would like to know how the Find-Outers developed in later life could do no better than to read Julie Heginbotham's excellent series, The Find-Outers in Retirement. There are sixteen stories available to read on this website. Just click on Fan Fiction at the top of the page.
Fatty says... Fatty says: Highly recommended. Thanks for the reminder, Nigel.
January 13, 2022 – Clear-Orf says: Oh come on! They are like brothers and sisters NOT AT ALL a romantic way! Bets and pip did talk about Fatty being Bets brother, didn't they!
January 26, 2022 – Avan N. Cooverji says: Fatty and Bets a romantic pair? It some how brings to my mind the saying--- '' too much familiarity breeds contempt ". Better to let them remain as they are depicted in the Mystery books , for that will change the equation and lose its charm. But Bets is sure to seek in her future husband a man who embodies the qualities of Fatty and so will Fatty find happiness with someone who resembles Beth.
Daisy says... Daisy says: You haven't read our Fan Fiction section then, on the Find-Outers in Retirement where Bets and Fatty have enjoyed a long and loving marriage?
March 10, 2022 – Muriel says: I love the Findouters, and Bets and Fatty are my favourite characters. Fatty's contributions to Ern's 'portrey,' are pretty clever. One of the 'pomes' about Goon is hilarious. They have to marry!
February 24, 2024 – Steinway says: Another point of view. If you read the Find Outers books from the time Eunice appears in them, you can detect that Fatty and Bets relationship changes. Whilst Fatty and Eunice at first are at loggerheads, they do appear to me as a more equal couple. Eunice doesn't take all this hero worship of Fatty that Bets and the others, to a lesser degree, give him; which is far more healthy in a relationship, than idolisation from one side. I am not saying that Fatty and Eunice would end up as a couple, but someone not so starstruck as Bets, would work better long term. They would always be friends, as would all the Find Outers.
March 1, 2024 – Mia says: I hope Fatty will spend plenty for a good hotel suite for the wedding night.
PC Goon says... PC Goon says: Knowing Fatty, it will be a suite at the Savoy!
March 4, 2024 – Mia says: Bets: "The Savoy! Nothing but the best! " Fatty: "I'm sorry but Julian Kirrin bagged the Ritz."
