Talk About Blyton!

Unlisted - Enid Blyton in general – Hollywood and Enid Blyton Books

October 23, 2009 – Melanie says: We all know Enid was a bit scornful of girls that adored the filmstars, as in Zerelda Brass in Malory Towers and Sadie from St. Clare's but quite a few of her characters enjoy the cinema. It's mentioned in The Secret Seven, St. Clare's, The Six Bad Boys and even becomes a plot device in the Find Outers. I did a bit of research and would have loved to have found that "Lossie Laxton, star of 'He Loved her So'". To no avail. The only real film mentioned in Enid Blyton books is 'Westward Ho!' in 'Puzzle for the Secret Seven', a film that was released in 1935, which is surprising seeing as the book was published in 1958 (!) but maybe films reached little village cinemas a lot later in the 1950's?
October 24, 2009 – jerry says: (Melanie said- The only real film mentioned in Enid Blyton books is 'Westward Ho' in 'Puzzle for the Secret Seven. ') Another “Ho” exists – "Ivanhoe." This 1952 movie was mentioned in a 1953 book called "The Mystery of Holly Lane" (Night Adventure).
November 14, 2009 – Katy says: Are you sure that It wasn't only the copy of that book that was printed in 1958? She may have written it in the 40's and it only got published by that company in 1958. I'm only 13 so I'm not entirely sure about this kind of thing.
November 10, 2016 – Anon says: There is also Clive of India mentioned from Summer Term At St. Clare's. Janet disobeys Miss Roberts and goes to see the film.
April 20, 2017 – Paul says: Speaking of Hollywood, I can just see Alec Guinness as Bill Smuggs.
